Metal fatigue caused plane crash near Cardiff Airport
17.01.06
Metal fatigue in an engine cylinder has been identified in an official report as the likely cause of a plane crash near Cardiff Airport.
A two-seater light aircraft was wrecked when it crash landed in a field near Rumney last August and ended up in the road next to the field. An Air Accident Investigation Branch report just published said the two people on board walked away unhurt.
An instructor and his student were returning to Cardiff Airport in the plane, owned by Gareth Llewellyn Jones of Talbot Green, when the engine made a loud bang before the plane lost speed and came down in the field.
