Higher rail fares ‘will benefit domestic air travel’
31.08.08
A spokesman for Bristol Airport has said that last week's above-inflation increase in rail fares will result in more people using domestic air links. Train passengers saw double-figure price rises rolled out across much of the network on Wednesday, prompting an angry reaction from consumer groups and leaving many looking for alternative modes of transport.
Some of the biggest increases were seen on Southeastern Railway services to London, with rises of up to 14.5 percent. Commenting on the dramatic price hikes, Bristol Airport's aviation development director Tony Hallwood said that an inevitable consequence would be increased demand for domestic flights.
