Bristol Airport passengers up 9.3%
19.09.08
Passengers were up 9.3% in August at Bristol Airport compared to a year earlier due to additional low cost capacity.
Domestic traffic continues to decline, down 7.0%, but international traffic increased 26.1%, due to the ongoing impact of the Ryanair base which opened in November 2007, new easyJet routes and the introduction of Lufthansa in March 2008. Charter traffic was 10.4% lower due to consolidation in the industry.
In the 12 months to the end of August passengers were up 8.7% to 6.3m, with domestic passengers down 8.2% (1.2m), international passengers up 21.8% (3.8m) and charter passengers down 4.9% (1.3m). The airport said that it would not be badly affected by the failure of XL Airways, which represents 3% of its traffic.
