Another local council objects to new Bristol Airport parking

Plans to use land at a mushroom farm in Langford for Bristol Airport parking have met fresh opposition after a second local council voted to oppose the scheme. Members of Churchill and Langford Parish Council voted unanimously to refuse the application, submitted by developers Bristol Park and Fly, for a 1200-space car park at Monaghans Mushroom Farm in Stock Lane.
The scheme was unveiled by Bristol Park and Fly's boss and sole employee, Steven Merry, at a meeting with villagers in May. Those attending raised concerns over light, noise and pollution.
On Monday, Councillor Alan Brown asked his colleagues to write individually to North Somerset Council citing the specific district council policies contravened by the proposals, such as danger caused by excess traffic near the farm.
As reported last week Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council has also voted against the plans and agreed to send a letter of objection to North Somerset Council.
Mr Merry said of the councils actions: 'We are happy for the local authority to be dealing with the matter. I am sure it will make the correct decision based on the merits of the application and not politically driven motives.'
