British Airport criticised over security fast track

Bristol Airport has been criticised over a new service allowing people to avoid security queues by paying £5, the Evening Post reports. But the service has not gone down well with one regular at the airport, who claims it is an unfair money-making enterprise which exploits the misery of passengers who have to endure delays at security.
The Fly Thru service, which came into effect late last month, allows passengers travelling through the airport to fast-track their way to the departure lounge. It is aimed at business passengers and people with pressure on their time as part of a customer upgrade across the airport.
Regular traveller Graeme Wakerley, a biomedical scientist, aged 56, from Kingswood, told the newspaper: ‘I use Bristol Airport fairly frequently, I think the facilities are pretty poor and it galls me when they send me an email offering an improved service – which I have to pay for. It gives you the impression that anyone who pays their £5 can get preferential treatment when they get to the security check-in, while everyone else has to make do with the queues.'
‘I think it's appalling that Bristol Airport should try to generate cash through the misery that they put people through. Why don't they just put the money into staff and, for example, more toilets?’
James Gore, spokesman for Bristol International Airport, told the newspaper: ‘We've invested over £3 million in improving the security search area to include additional search channels and state-of-the-art x-ray technology. This has enabled us to reduce queue times for all passengers.'
‘However, some passengers told us they wanted a way of guaranteeing the quickest possible progress to the security search point, so we have introduced the Fly Thru option. By offering a choice of options we can provide an airport experience to suit the needs of all passengers.‘
