Police and Bristol Airport launch ‘drink awareness’ campaign
11.06.11
Avon and Somerset Police Constabulary and Bristol Airport have teamed up to promote Drink Awareness to passengers flying in and out of the airport this summer. The ‘Know Your Limit’ Campaign is designed to remind travellers that flying and drunkenness do not mix and will not be tolerated.
PC Andy Bibbings said: ‘This scheme is designed to address a small minority of people who either turn up at the airport drunk, or consume too much alcohol while waiting for their flight. We want everyone who comes here to have an enjoyable and safe start to their trip. But we would warn anyone coming here either drunk or with the intention of consuming lots of alcohol, to think again.'
'If a person's behaviour is such that it negatively effects the enjoyment of other passengers because of alcohol-related anti social behaviour, or such behaviour causes anyone to feel threatened or unsafe, then the culprit will probably not be flying anywhere and may end up in a cell.'
‘The airport encourages passengers to a have a relaxing start to their holiday and encourages them to use the bars and restaurants, but everyone has a personal responsibility for their own behaviour. Alcohol-related anti social behaviour will not be tolerated. We will not allow the behaviour of a few to spoil the enjoyment and travel plans of the majority.'
The campaign's message will be reinforced at the airport with various merchandise promoting the ‘Drink Awareness to Passengers’ initiative, including: posters and table-top spinners.
