Bristol lose Ryanair and easyJet routes
05.09.08
Budget airline Ryanair is to suspend five of its routes from Bristol Airport this winter. easyJet is also withdrawing a route - to Poland's capital Warsaw - in November due to a lack of demand.
One of the destinations no longer to be served by Ryanair is Porto, also known as Oporto, the Portuguese city with which Bristol is twinned. The budget airline has said that the route was always planned as a seasonal service and that it will re-open in April next year, despite launching the flights last November and operating them through the winter.
Other destinations to get the axe over the winter, as a result of rising fuel prices and excessive (foreign) airport taxes, are Pau in France, Salzburg in Austria, Rzeszow in Poland and Budapest in Hungary.
A spokeswoman for easyJet confirmed the withdrawal of the Warsaw service and added: ‘In the current environment flexibility is vital and easyJet continues to review its schedule. We may make further adjustments both to eliminate unprofitable routes and to seize any opportunities that may arise.’
