Councillor unhappy at Bristol Airport night flights

A Cleeve parish councillor has said that bosses at Bristol Airport should do more to prevent aircraft using the site at night time, the Western & Somerset Mercury reports Councillor Hilary Burn was involved in a heated exchange with airport chief executive Paul Kehoe at a recent meeting.
Ms Burn told the Airport Consultative Committee annual general meeting a flight either landed at or took off from the airport every six minutes from 23:30 - 05:30 on May 23, 24 and 25. The movements were close together because of a backlog of planes leaving Cardiff following the Heineken Cup Final.
However, Mr Kehoe insisted he was legally bound to accept the flights and there was nothing he could do to prevent aircraft landing. He said: ‘The airport has to be here to serve the greater good and the majority of residents in North Somerset benefit from having it in their area.’
After the meeting Ms Burn said: ‘Mr Kehoe didn't seem to take the concerns of Cleeve's residents very seriously and it's quite outrageous that the flights left as often as they did. For him to say that the majority of North Somerset residents benefit from the airport is just his opinion.'
