New drugs body scanner at Birmingham Airport

There is no hiding place for drugs mules at Birmingham Airport thanks to an X-ray gadget that literally gets underneath their skin. The device electronically ‘strips’ suspects of their clothes and penetrates their body to highlight if they are carrying cocaine in their stomachs.
After successful trials at airports across the country, the body scanner has now become a fixture at the airport. The scan of the body, which leaves little to the imagination, takes place instantly and the resultant image appears on a computer screen in black and white highlighting concealed items. The new scanner has already helped catch smugglers who have swallowed dozens of pellets in an effort to beat the checks and bring drugs into the UK.
