25.10.08
Flybe has beaten British Airways, Lufthansa and American Airways to take a top environment award. A spokesman said that the 2008 Brussels Airport Environmental Award vindicates the airline’s decision to spend $3 billion on a fleet of cleaner, more efficient aircraft.
By the end of 2009 Flybe will have one of the youngest and most fuel efficient fleets in the world. It includes the Embraer 195, which sets new standards for operating costs, fuel efficiency, environmental performance.
Mike Rutter, chief commercial officer for Flybe, said: ‘We’re honoured to receive this award from Brussels Airport that recognises Flybe’s environmental credentials. Our $3bn investment into a dual-type, environment-sensitive fleet and the launch of the world’s only eco-label for the aviation industry have contributed to Flybe taking an industry lead and making a significant contribution in this area.’
‘By investing time and money into initiatives like new and more efficient fleets, as well as eco-labelling, the aviation industry can do more.’
