A mother and teenage daughter have been arrested after officers seized the largest ever haul of cannabis at Birmingham Airport. The 47 kilos of compressed cannabis resin was found hidden inside three bags being brought into the country from Jamaica.
The drugs are estimated to be worth £130,000 and were seized by officers from the newly formed UK Border Agency on Tuesday. A 41-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter, both from London, were arrested on suspicion of smuggling when they arrived on a flight from Montego Bay.
Officers from HM Revenue and Customs and the police are now investigating. The two women will appear at Solihull Magistrates Court on July 17.
