Birmingham Airport has announced the appointment of Richard Gill as its new Head of Market Development – Commercial. He joins from Alpha Airport Shopping where he held the position of General Manager for Birmingham Airport’s tax and duty free operation since August 2005.
Responsible for a team of seven, his new post involves maximising commercial revenue on the airport site, planning and forecasting future direction and financial performance from all commercial activity, and encouraging high performance levels, both financial and service, from the 70 commercial partners on site.
Mr Gill said: ‘I’m really looking forward to taking the airport’s commercial operation into the next exciting stage of its development. It’s a very busy time, but with such a strong team behind me, I’m sure that the learning curve won’t be too steep!’
Birmingham Airport’s Business Development Director, Peter Vella, added: ‘Whilst working for Alpha, Richard controlled the build, shop fit and opening of two brand new stores in Terminals 1 & 2 which meant working very closely with Birmingham Airport’s Commercial team to overcome the many challenges that arose. He demonstrated excellent vision and a winning management style so we’re all delighted that he has joined our team to take the commercial operation forward.’
Mr Gill is 38 years old, from Redditch in Worcestershire, and married with three children. He enjoys most sports and manages the Redditch Town’s under sevens football side.
