Flybe cut growth plans on business passenger fall
14.09.08
Flybe is responding to the reduced demand for seats by cutting its growth plans for the coming winter season. The regional budget airline will be offering 400,000 fewer seats than it had originally planned during the months from October to March, after a decision was made to reduce capacity growth.
The airline will only increase its capacity by 6 percent for the winter season, instead of the 16 percent it had planned. It will also be cutting back on the number of flights it operates between the UK and destinations in Europe, including Brussels, Frankfurt and Paris.
Chairman and chief executive, Jim French, said that Flybe’s corporate customers were starting to rein in spending, which prompted the airline to change its growth plans. He said: ‘We are beginning to see some of the corporate accounts slow down.'
