Busiest month ever at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport is celebrating the highest number of passengers ever pass through its terminals in a single month last month, surpassing the previous best set in August 2005. The hub handled 1,079,970 passengers, the busiest month since opening back in 1939.
During the month, 741,445 scheduled passengers and 338,525 charter travellers used the Airport’s two terminals, an increase of 7.4% over the previous year and 30,000 more than the same month three years ago.
This milestone comes on the back of a busiest-ever July, which also resulted in the million passenger mark being achieved. The airport is now on course for a record year.
In August, growth was achieved on Non EU routes of 2.4% and EU of 24.3%. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 20.4%.
Scheduled routes that experienced growth in August include: Bratislava (up 953%), Inverness (up 90%), Marseille (up 75.9%), Larnaca (up 59%), Milan (37.6%), Split (29.6%) and Warsaw (28.3%). Charter routes that experienced growth were Egypt (up 66.3%), Mexico (up 27.5%), Italy (up 17.2%), Croatia (up 9.6%), Spain (up 5.7%), Bulgaria (up 4.4%) and Turkey (up 4%).
