Pope’s departure from Birmingham Airport ‘away from public’
11.09.10
Birmingham Airport has told people not to travel to the hub in the hope of seeing the Pope depart the UK at the end of his visit, which starts next Thursday. The airport said that the departure will ‘take place in a restricted zone, away from all public areas’.
The Pope is due to visit the city on September 19 to beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman who died in Birmingham in 1890. Broadcasters across the world will be showing the mass conducted by Pope Benedict XVI.
The airport is asking that members of the public watch the events on television, including the Pope's departure from the hub, which will be shown on BBC2.
