Ryanair announce ski routes from Birmingham Airport
03.09.08
Ryanair has announced two new winter ski routes from Birmingham Airport and confirmed its intention to open more routes from the hub. The routes to Grenoble and Cuneo, near Turin, were announced at the same time as a further ten new routes from other UK airports as part of the budget airline’s biggest ever winter ski programme.
The new Birmingham routes, which will run weekly from December 20 until next April, bring Ryanair’s 2008/2009 ski schedule total to 101 routes, an increase of 40 percent on last year.
Ryanair sales and marketing manager Bridget Dowling said the airline was keen to increase the number of future routes to different destinations from Birmingham Airport rather than the frequencies on existing routes. She added flights out of Birmingham, which were launched in June this year, were doing well and were continuing to grow.
Ryanair currently operates 36 routes carrying 1.3 million passengers a year to and from its Birmingham base but intends to increase this to 5 million passengers a year in the next five years.
