Aer Lingus has announced that its first year of operations to Heathrow from Belfast International Airport saw more than 250,000 passengers use the service. The Irish airline began flying to Heathrow on January 14 last year as it launched ten routes from its new Belfast base.
Airline corporate affairs director Enda Corneille said that Belfast International, which was Aer Lingus' first base outside the Republic of Ireland, is a 'continuing success story'. He said: 'In our first year of operations we took more than 750,000 bookings, that was 50% ahead of our target and we are well on our way to our millionth booking.'
'Today we are delighted to celebrate a quarter of a million passengers on Heathrow. The service is a resounding success especially when one considers that in just 12 months we've captured around 40% of the market from scratch.' He aslo revealed that the airline has seen a 'massive jump' in bookings since the beginning of the year as customers' thoughts turn to summer holidays.
