Travel retailer World Duty Free has celebrated the official opening of its new store at Belfast City airport. The 2,126sq ft multi-category shop is nearly three times larger than the Alpha Airport Shopping outlet it replaced and is part of the airport’s airside refurbishment programme. The company has also been granted a 10-year extension to its contract at Belfast City, which will now run until 2019.
The shop has a 372sq ft alcohol section - a completely new category at Belfast City - with a focus on Irish whiskey brands including premium items such as Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve. In the fragrances category, new brands include Hermès, Chloé and Guerlain, and a self-service display of Swarovski products has been added to the jewellery category.
WDF director of retail operations Fred Creighton, said sales at the location have increased by 150% since the new store had its 'soft launch' on February 28. Staff numbers have also doubled to serve a growing customer base.
