easyJet boss calls for better road access to Belfast Airport

The boss at easyJet made a call for an upgrade of road and public transport links to Belfast International Airport, where it is the largest user, yesterday. Andy Harrison, chief executive officer of the no-frills airline, raised the issue during a visit to Aldergrove, when he also called on the council to focus on one Belfast Airport.
Mr. Harrison said: 'You know better than me how long it can take with all the traffic problems to travel from Belfast to the airport. If I was the Lord Mayor of Belfast I think I would be directing all investment to Belfast International and ensuring that the city has one really good airport, the approach taken by most other cities in Europe.'
Last year Belfast International handled a total of 5.25 million passengers, 3.4 million of whom travelled with easyJet. Mr Harrison predicted that easyJet would show double digit growth this year from Belfast International, despite competition from Ryanair (at Belfast City) and Aer Lingus (at Belfast International).
He said: 'At present we base six aircraft at Belfast but from February or March will be locating a seventh aircraft here. This summer we celebrate our 10th anniversary of operations from Belfast and we currently operate a total of 23 routes from Northern Ireland.'
