Aberdeen Airport flying club to close
25.07.08
A pilot training centre at Aberdeen Airport is to close after struggling to cope with soaring rent and the crippling cost of fuel, the Press & Journal reports Grampian Airways Flying Club, known locally as the Aberdeen Flying Club, will close this week under increased financial pressure.
The school, which recently attracted more than 100 trainee pilots, has been established in the north-east, under various ownership, for more than 40 years. It rented its premises at Aberdeen Airport from aviation services company Signature Flight Support while paying landing fees direct to BAA.
The spokesman told the newspaper: ‘It’s just been additional cost after additional cost. The cost of fuel, renting the building and landing fees have all gone up. It’s just not financially sustainable any more.’
