More problems for Flyglobespan as passengers refuse to fly after fuel spill
27.06.07
Dozens of passengers refused to fly on a Flyglobespan flight from Alicante to Aberdeen Airport on Monday night after fuel spilled from their plane as it prepared for take-off. The latest incident comes after the airline suffered a series of problems, including two emergency landings, plus a number delays and flight cancellations.
The Boeing 737 was due to leave Alicante at 22:50 on Monday night. The panic started when passengers saw firefighters spraying foam on the areas affected by the fuel. The passengers on board the aircraft demanded to get off the aircraft.
One passenger described 'hysterical' scenes at the Spanish airport which forced the aircraft to return to the terminal. The flight was delayed for two hours while the 43 of the 140 passengers disembarked and their luggage was removed.
A Flyglobespan spokesman said: 'The airline's position, which has been confirmed by Boeing, was there was absolutely nothing wrong with the plane, it was perfectly safe'. He said instances of planes being over-fuelled were 'not infrequent'. The airline said it was now making efforts to return the affected passengers to Scotland.
