Aberdeen Airport drug smuggler jailed

A 43 year-old man, arrested for attempting to smuggle over 2 kgs of cocaine into Scotland via Aberdeen Airport has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment at Edinburgh High Court.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers detained Cosmos Eke Okoronkwo, an electronics trader from Lagos, in December last year. He had arrived in Aberdeen on a flight from Amsterdam, having begun his journey in Nigeria. The cocaine, with a street value of £287,950, was concealed inside his baggage.
Mr. Okoronkwo's sentence has been backdated to December 3 2007, for time spent on remand. In addition, £930 seized from him at Aberdeen Airport has been forfeited to the Crown.
