£10m Aberdeen Airport upgrade begins

Work has started on a £10 million project to give visitors a first-class welcome at Aberdeen Airport. Phase one of the work on international arrivals involves creating a heated walkway, which is is due to be completed by the start of next year. Work will also include expanded aircraft parking stands, costing around £3 million. It will provide accommodation for the latest generation of cleaner, quieter aircraft.
The next phases of work will see a major extension of the international arrivals hall. Improvements will also be made to passport control, baggage reclaim and to cut congestion in the terminal.
Aberdeen Airport’s managing director Kevin Brown said: ‘We need to provide excellent facilities with improved capacity to cater for the additional numbers of passengers flying to our city. The international arrivals project will further encourage international tourists to visit this part of the world which has so much to offer.’
The programme of work is the latest in a series of investment projects at the terminal this year. A £2 million forecourt development, which will include an access lane for taxis and service buses and a drop-off area for passengers, was launched last month. This should make access easier for the public.
