BMI add capacity between Heathrow and Aberdeen
12.06.10
British Midland International (bmi) has announced plans to increase capacity to its Heathrow - Aberdeen route by 90%. The full service airline operates six flights a day on the route using Embraer regional planes, but is set to replace some of the flights with Airbus A319 planes, which carry an average 140 passengers.
From August 1 flights from Heathrow leaving at 07:00, 17:45 and 20:00, as well as flights leaving Aberdeen at 07:40, 10:10 and 20:00 will all be operated using the bigger planes. The airline says that this will add almost 3,000 extra seats on the route per week.
bmi offers a 'single cabin' service on this route, which features seating for Flexible Economy and Economy. However, those who fly Flexible Economy are given access to lounges on both ends of the route, complimentary food and drink, as well as separate seating at the front of the aircraft - similar to the old business class service from the airline, but treated as economy for air passenger duty (tax) purposes !
