Aberdeen Airport boss backs call for devolved APD

Aberdeen Airport has backed a group of influential north-east figures who have made an eleventh hour bid to persuade the Government to give Scotland control of air passenger duty (APD), STV reports. An open letter urging UK Chancellor George Osborne to devolve powers for APD to Scotland has been signed by senior figures in the region's travel industry ahead of the pre-budget report due in November, including the airport's managing director.
The letter argues of economic similarities between Northern Ireland, where the tax is set to be devolved, and Scotland. Both are trying to increase inward investment and increase export revenue to support an economy recovering from the economic recession, it says. Signatories to the letter include Aberdeen Airport managing director Derek Provan, Derick Murray, director of north-east transport body Nestrans, and Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce CEO Bob Collier.
