New jobs for some Aberdeen Airport baggage handlers
09.12.07
More than half of the 93 baggage handling jobs facing the axe at Aberdeen Airport have been saved. 48 former Servisair staff have switched to Flight Support, which was starting operations at the airport today. Most of the remaining 45 former Servisair workers already have new jobs, either with other handling firms or elsewhere within the airport.
Servisair announced last month it was withdrawing its ground-handling work, including check-in and baggage-handling operations, having only started operations at the airport during the summer after BA pulled out. Isle of Man-based Flight Support will be investing £500,000 in its Aberdeen base, turning around more than 60 flights per week.
Flight Support will look after the UK's largest low cost carriers, easyJet and Ryanair, as well as Flybe, the largest regional low-cost carrier, at Aberdeen airport. The rest of Servisair's contracts have been picked up by existing operators.
