Plane de-icing problem caused Aberdeen flight emergency
08.10.09
A passenger flight from Aberdeen Airport to the Faroe Islands was forced to land at Wick because it had not been properly de-iced before takeoff, an official report has found. The Air Accident Investigation Branch said vital systems on the Jetstream 41 became jammed with ice in April 2008.
Fire, police, ambulance, and the coastguard had been alerted after the pilot reported having difficulty with his elevator controls. The Eastern Airways aircraft, with three crew and 10 passengers on board, was diverted to Wick, where the air temperature was higher.
The aircraft landed safely at 09:23 on 9 April at Wick Airport after being escorted by RAF Tornados.
