Loganair buy City Star firms
08.03.08
Scottish airline Loganair announced yesterday it has acquired an engineering and maintenance company based in Aberdeen Airport. As previously reported, the airline will take over Caledonian Airborne Engineering (CAE), which also includes a ground-handling operation, for an undisclosed sum. This despite the boss of CAEs owner, Runar Arnason, saying this week: ‘We are not selling these businesses.’
CAE provides maintenance and ground-handling for a number of commercial aircraft operators at Aberdeen and Newcastle airports. It was acquired by City Star Holdings, the Aberdeen-based airline's Icelandic parent, last year to take the failed airline's engineering in-house and provide the services for other airlines. It employs around 40 staff at a hanger at Aberdeen Airport and a further 4 at Newcastle Airport.
Peter Tierney, Loganair's chief executive, said: ‘This move is strategically significant to us and we are delighted that Caledonian Airborne Engineering has become part of Loganair as they have a great reputation and a good customer base - both of which we are committed to maintaining. We will continue to service Caledonian Airborne Engineering's third-party customers and see this as an excellent opportunity to diversify and grow our business and engineering base.’
No one from City Star, including Runar Amason, was available for comment on the story.
