Airlines fighting for Aberdeen - Oslo flights

Several airlines are fighting to take over direct flights between Aberdeen Airport and Oslo after the popular route was left vacant by the collapse of City Star last week, the Press and Journal reports. The newspaper says that Flybe and Eastern Airways are among firms wanting to take over the link, which was flown exclusively by City Star.
The Oslo flights were established in 2005 to target the estimated 12,500 passengers who travel indirectly from Aberdeen to the Norwegian capital each year. No other airline flies directly on the route, making it the most attractive option for airlines looking to capitalise on City Star's failure.
Last night low-cost carrier Flybe hinted they were ready to pick up the link. Niall Duffy, spokesman for the airline, told the newspaper: 'We are constantly looking at new route opportunities for growth, so never say never.'
A spokesman for Eastern Airways said he could not rule the firm out of the race. He said: 'There is nothing we can say on this at the moment but we wouldn't deny anything either. We look at route development all the time.'
However, bmi Regional will not be taking over the route. A spokesman said it was not interested in any of the routes left behind by City Star.
