Disruption over forecourt and car park work at Aberdeen Airport
05.07.08
Security at Aberdeen Airport is to be stepped up as part of a £2 million forecourt and short term car parking project. BAA say the move will ‘transform’ the terminal forecourt, improving security measures and providing more convenient access for the public, but it will lead to some disruption whilst the work takes place - right in the summer peak.
The £2 million programme will include a new dedicated access lane for taxis and service buses and a new drop-off car park for passengers, while further improvements to existing security arrangements will be introduced. Work will begin on Monday and is expected to last 18 weeks.
The project will also include measures to reduce CO2 emissions, and will see the replacement of existing lighting with low-energy, high-efficiency LED fittings.
Aberdeen Airport’s customer services director, Will Dougherty, said: 'When this work is complete the forecourt will meet the needs of our passengers and represent a significant improvement on the existing arrangements. Unfortunately a degree of disruption is inevitable, particularly in the area currently used as the drop-off area and car park.’
