No plans for drop off fees at Aberdeen Airport

Airport operator BAA has no plans to introduce a charge for drivers dropping off passengers in Aberdeen, the Press & Journal reports. The airport operator confirmed it would not follow the example of Edinburgh Airport, where motorists will be charged £1 to drop off at the terminal building from October.
The announcement that Edinburgh is to charge a fee to drop off or pick up near the terminal sparked accusations that it was profiteering. Management said the charge would help balance the cost of the provision of facilities with their usage, pointing out that they had spent £4m upgrading the terminal forecourt since the Glasgow Airport terror attack, and previously so called 'kiss and fly' passengers (those dropped off or collected by friends or relatives) paid nothing towards this.
An Aberdeen Airport spokeswoman told the newspaper the decision to charge motorists in Edinburgh had been made by local management and not at a corporate level. She said: ‘It is not something we have ever considered here.'
However, with Cardiff and Belfast International airports set to introduce a charge to drop off or collect next week, following the lead of Luton and Newcastle airports who already charge, we fear that it is only a matter of time before the charge is made at all major airports.
