Aberdeen Airport runway work progressing

The multimillion-pound programme of work to resurface the main runway at Aberdeen Airport is well under way, the Press & Journal reports. The £7.2m project started in March and is expected to be completed by late October. It involves removing the top layer of the runway, in small areas at a time, and replacing it with a new surface, which is expected to last for over 15 years.
Contractors are working on the runway overnight to minimise the impact on passengers and airport operations. A spokeswoman said the project is going exactly as they hoped it would. She told the newspaper: ‘There has been little disruption to airport operations and very little impact on those living around the airport. The resurfacing is going really well and everyone is working extremely hard.’
Airport managing director Kevin Brown added: ‘This is an extensive programme of work that required a great deal of careful planning and consultations with our airline partners and local communities. As a very busy airport and a vital component of the oil and gas industry, we cannot simply close the airport while this work is carried out, therefore the work is being carried out overnight.’
